About Us

Love In the Name of Christ of Cowlitz County (Love INC) is a 501C3 non-profit organization. We are comprised of volunteers from over a dozen local churches. Our mission is to find the unmet needs in our community and provide assistance to the individuals and families who need help.

How We Got Here

The Vision

In 2005 hurricane Katrina devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast. Following that event, at a local prayer meeting a pastor for the community challenged his peers to mobilize members of their congregations to set aside a week to go help in the hurricane relief efforts. In 2 weeks 100 volunteers from 12 congregations had their online plane tickets and were ready to go.

The Conception

The trip to the Gulf Coast was so impactful that an idea emerged on the way home. The idea was simple: “Why don’t we do this in our own community?” That conversation led to a decision to have a week of service in May of 2006. That week 400 volunteers from 20 congregations completed 32 service projects in 6 days.

The week of service was so successful a decision was made to do it again in 2007. This year it grew even bigger in the number of volunteers and the number of people served. The projects included service to individuals and families, other non-profits, local government, and schools. For the next 3 years Servant Week, as it began to be called, continued to grow in size and impact.

The Birth

By 2009 Servant Week leaders were getting calls for help year round. It was clear that a year- round vehicle for corporate service was needed. After looking around the country for other examples, we found Love INC National. Its template was just like what was forming in our community. So, in 2010 Servant Week birthed into Love In the Name of Christ of Cowlitz County.

Our Mission

To mobilize the whole church to transform the whole community one life at a time.
